ACVVS Volunteer Visiting Program

  • What is the Volunteer Visitors Scheme for Aged Care (ACVVS)?

The scheme is specifically designed for older people receiving government-subsidized residential aged care or home care packages. This includes approved care recipients or those in the National Priority System for residential or home care packages, as well as older individuals who are socially isolated. The scheme has been operating for over 30 years, formerly known as the Community Visitors Scheme (CVS). So our volunteers will be your new friends, able to speak your language and understand your cultural needs!

  • Why is it important?

Some older people may feel lonely for various reasons. This includes feeling isolated from their culture and heritage, having little contact with friends or family, experiencing mobility issues that prevent them from participating in social or recreational activities, and feeling different in some way.

Regular visits from volunteers can help improve quality of life and make older people feel less isolated.

  • How does it work?

UNITED recruits, trains, and supports volunteer visitors while conducting police background checks for the volunteers. Subsequently, they match the volunteers with older people receiving aged care and, finally, provide support for the relationships formed between the volunteers and the visit recipients.

Volunteers visit at least 20 times a year. They can be:

    • Individual or group visits to residential aged care homes
    • Individual visits to people receiving Home Care Packages.

  • Why choose UNITED?

We are a not-for-profit community organization that puts you first. Our volunteers are not only highly qualified and enthusiastic, but also capable of understanding your language and cultural requirements. Working closely with the program coordinator, we aim to match you with a regular visitor who aligns with your interests, hobbies, and background.
